Jury’s $1 Message: ‘I Believe It Was a Message to Defense Counsel’
In an article published by the Daily Business Review, attorneys Aaron Davis, Michael Bild, and Laura Arango of Davis Goldman, along with Tom Scolaro of Scolaro Law, were recognized for securing a $12.8 million jury verdict in a tragic wrongful death case involving a wrong-way drunk driver in Jacksonville, Florida.
Their efforts resulted in what may be the largest wrongful death verdict in Duval County for a case where the victim was survived solely by parents, and sent a powerful message in response to the defense’s $1 offer.
“We had a defense counsel who wanted to try the case in a certain way, and our plans changed throughout. We had to pivot,” Davis said. “The theme was, just keep the train on the tracks. You can’t get thrown off by the distractions and the rulings. Eventually, the jury is going to see the case for what it is and see your clients for who they are. If you believe in your case, and you are on the side of angels and righteousness is with you, you put your head down and you do the work, and then the jury will get it.”
